Part-Time Senior Level Math/Science Tutor (Gr. 11-12) Wanted

Gain valuable teaching experience! Oxford Learning York Mills is looking for an upbeat, reliable, enthusiastic, dynamic part-time High School Math/Physics/Chemistry Teacher who wants to work in a rewarding teaching environment. Candidates must possess a strong background in Advanced Functions, Calculus, Data Managemet, Physics, OR Chemistry and must be comfortable teaching students in Grades 11–12 at all levels. 

We are currently seeking part-time tutors for a role in our learning centre. This position is perfect for anyone who loves working with students, enjoys numbers and equations, and is passionate about helping others build their skills in these areas.

Tutors at Oxford Learning do not have to lesson plan before class, as all lessons are pre-planned. Applicants will be fully trained in our proprietary philosophy and methods.

Position Requirements

All Teacher-Tutors at Oxford Learning work during after-school and evening hours (3:00pm - 8:00pm) as well as some Saturdays (10:00am - 1:00pm). A commitment until the end of the school year is preferred. Continuing through summer is even better. Your students will love working with you, and being reliable is a must.

This role is in-person. You must be able to commute to this location. This is not an online position. Relocation packages are not available. Vulnerable sector screening is mandatory.

We encourage you to apply if you have the majority of the following requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or similar certification in a relevant field
  • University students with a foundational knowledge based and extensive tutoring experience will be considered
  • Teaching certification an asset
  • Strong knowledge of the AT LEAST one of the following:
    • current Grades 9-12 math curriculum, particularly senior math and including, but not limited to, advanced functions, algebra, trigonometry and calculus, and vectors
    • current Grades 11-12 physics curriculum, particularly but not limited to kinematics, dynamics, energy, waves, circuits, etc
    • current Grades 11-12 chemistry curriculum, particularly but not limited to atomic bonding, organic chemistry, thermodynamics, equilibrium, solutions, etc

Experience:

  • Some experience teaching/tutoring math at a Grade 11-12 (or equivalent) level
  • Strong English written and oral communication skills
  • Strong math and science skills and ability to guide students’ understanding
  • Ability to multitask and balance working with up to three students at a time

Responsibilities (Position Details)

You will work directly with students as an Interactive Coach with the following responsibilities:

  • Teaching up to 3 students at a time at different levels
  • Teaching online and in-person
  • Following the Oxford Learning methodologies and philosophies
  • Filling in post-lesson notes
  • Completing daily student communication updates
  • Maintaining a friendly and professional manner at all times
