Little Readers Teacher/Tutor Wanted

Are you all about alliteration? Love to learn about letters? Eager to help students succeed in learning to read?

Gain valuable teaching experience. Oxford Learning Kleinburg is currently seeking a little reader assistant role in our learning centre. This position is perfect for anyone who loves working with children ages 2.5-5 years old.

Assistants at Oxford Learning will have to lesson plan before class, and will be expected to create engaging arts and crafts activities, STEM activites, and sensory bins for our little readers.  Applicants will be fully trained in our proprietary philosophy and methods.

Position Requirements:

Little Readers Assitants are required to work during the day, 8am-3pm. A commitment until the end of the term in June is preferred. Continuing through the summer is even better. Your students will love working with you, and being reliable is a must.

This role is in-person. You must be able to commute to this location. This is not an online position. No relocation package is offered. Vulnerable sector screening is mandatory.

We encourage you to apply if you have the majority of the following requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or similar certification in a relevant field
  • Fourth year university students with extensive tutoring experience will be considered
  • Teaching certification an asset
  • Good knowledge of the current Kindergarten curriculum

Experience:

  • Some experience teaching/tutoring at a Kindergarten level
  • Strong English written and oral communication skills and ability to guide students' understanding
  • Ability to multitask and balance working with up to three students at a time

Responsibilities (Position Details):

The Little Readers program is an enriched daily reading program for children aged 2.5 – 5 that develops the foundational skills needed to learn and excel. 

The Little Readers teachers use proprietary materials to teach students letter names, sounds, phonics, reading, comprehension, vocabulary, writing, and fine motor skills.

You will work directly with our younger students as an Interactive Coach with the following responsibilities:

  • Teaching up to 5 students at a time at different levels
  • Teaching in-person
  • Following the Oxford Learning methodologies and philosophies
  • Filling in post-lesson notes
  • Completing daily student communication updates
  • Maintaining a friendly and professional manner at all times
