Part-Time High School Math Teacher/Tutor Wanted - Hiring Beginning June 2023, for the 2023-2024 School Year!

Oxford Learning Oakville North is currently seeking part-time teacher/tutors for a role in our learning centre. This position is perfect for anyone who loves working with students, enjoys numbers and equations, and is passionate about helping others build their skills in these areas.

Our centre has grown rapidly and we are seeking exceptional teachers for our high school students. An ideal candidate for this position will possess a passion for education and teaching, attention to detail, availability at least 2 evenings/week, a comprehensive understanding of high school math (Functions and Physics), and experience working with children.

This is a FANTASTIC job for university students or recent university/teacher graduates; it looks great on your resume, will help you hone your teaching skills, and will expose you to a beautiful variety of students and teaching styles!

Typically, we prefer OCT-certified teachers, but will consider superb undergraduate candidates! Below is a detailed outline of this position and its expectations. Please review this information carefully before applying.

Applicants will be fully trained in our proprietary philosophy and methods.

Position Requirements

All Teacher-Tutors at Oxford Learning work during after-school and evening hours (approx 3:00pm - 8:30pm) as well as Saturdays (9:00am - 1:00pm). 

This role is in-person. You must be able to commute to this location. This is not an online position. Relocation packages are not offered. Vulnerable sector screening is mandatory.

We encourage you to apply if you have the majority of the following requirements:

Education:

  • OCT-certified preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree or similar certification in a relevant field
  • Third/fourth year university students with extensive tutoring experience will be considered
  • Teaching certification an asset
  • Extensive knowledge of the current Grades 9-12 math and science curriculum, particularly senior math and including, but not limited to, Advanced Functions, Algebra, Trigonometry and Calculus, and Vectors, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.

Experience:

  • Some experience teaching/tutoring math at a Grade 9 to 12 (or equivalent) level
  • Strong English written and oral communication skills
  • Strong math skills and ability to guide students’ understanding
  • Ability to multitask and balance working with up to three students at a time

Responsibilities (Position Details)

You will work directly with students as an Interactive Coach with the following responsibilities:

  • Teaching up to 3 students at a time at different levels
  • Teaching online and in-person
  • Following the Oxford Learning methodologies and philosophies
  • Filling in post-lesson notes
  • Completing daily student communication updates
  • Maintaining a friendly and professional manner at all times

Salary Range: $17 - $19 / hour
