Part-time Math/Science Teacher

Oxford Learning Thornhill has an opening for an upbeat, passionate, committed, enthusiastic, and dynamic math and science teacher who wants to work in a rewarding teaching environment. Our Education Programs offer individual support to students looking to improve their academic skills and study habits. Candidates must possess a strong passion for seeing students succeed and must be comfortable teaching students ranging in age from Kindergarten to Secondary school.

You will teach using a combination of Oxford Learning’s own proven, proprietary curriculum and materials, and also help students with their homework and help them prepare for tests/exams throughout the term.

Specific Qualifications: 

  • Experience working in an educational environment (minimum 1 year)
  • Extensive knowledge of written and verbal of the English Language
  • Proficient in math, science, and problem-solving, both written and verbal
  • Ability to teach Math and Science to Elementary and Secondary students
  • Knowledge of the current Grades 9-12 math and science curriculum, particularly senior maths including advanced functions, algebra, trigonometry, and calculus & vectors and senior sciences including biology, chemistry and physics would be an asset
  • Ability to teach English, or other subject areas would be an asset
  • Completed or in process of completing an undergraduate degree
  • Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) certification or working towards (including equivalent) would be a strong asset

Responsibilities (Position Details)

You will work directly with students as an Interactive Coach with the following responsibilities:

  • Teaching up to 3 students at a time at different levels
  • Teaching online and in-person
  • Following the Oxford Learning methodologies and philosophies
  • Filling in post-lesson notes
  • Completing daily student communication updates
  • Maintaining a friendly and professional manner at all times

Job Type: Part-time

Salary: $17 / hour

Schedule:

  • 1-2 afternoons, evenings a week Monday-Thursday (4 pm-7 pm)
  • and/or Saturday mornings (9 am-12 pm)
