PART-TIME FRENCH TUTOR WANTED

Do you want to help students turn a "I don't know" into an "Oh là là!"? Would you like to contribute to supporting young people's French learning outside the classroom?

Are you a friendly, reliable, and enthusiastic person with a strong command of French? Join the Oxford Learning Mississauga Central team as a part-time French teacher/tutor/coach. Put your passion to work helping students succeed—in French!

We teach students how to learn French. We help them improve their academic skills and study methods in a small group setting. And we have lots of fun! Our groups consist of a maximum of three students per teacher. We provide all the teaching materials and lessons. No lesson planning is required. The teachers explain the content provided, guide the students in their learning, and encourage them to verbalize their understanding.

Job requirements

Candidates must be available Monday through Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A commitment until the end of the session in June 2027 is preferred. Availability during the summer is an added advantage. Your students will enjoy working with you; therefore, reliability is essential.

Candidates must have a strong command of both spoken and written French and English, and be comfortable teaching up to Grade 9, although the ability to teach up to Grade 12 is preferred. The successful candidate will be required to conduct instruction in French.

This position is based in the field. You must be able to travel to this location. This is not a remote position. No relocation assistance is provided.

A criminal background check is mandatory for the vulnerable sector.

We encourage you to apply if you possess most of the following qualifications:

Training

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant field
  • Fourth-year university students with extensive tutoring experience will also be considered
  • Teaching certificate considered an asset
  • Good knowledge of the current French as a Second Language curriculum framework (grades 4 to 12)

Experience

  • Experience in teaching or tutoring French to students from grades 1 to 12 (or equivalent level)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
  • Strong French language skills and ability to support students in their understanding
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and to work with up to three students at a time

Responsibilities (job details)

You will work directly with students as an interactive educational coach, with the following responsibilities:

  • Teaching a maximum of three students simultaneously, at different levels
  • Offering online and in-person teaching
  • Apply the methodologies and philosophy of Oxford Learning
  • Write the follow-up notes after the lessons
  • Perform daily updates for students and families
  • Maintain a professional and welcoming attitude at all times.

Salary: $19 to $20 per hour

Hourly :

  • Evenings
  • From Monday to Thursday (must be available for the schedule of group 1: Monday/Wednesday or group 2: Tuesday/Thursday)
  • Saturday mornings
